I am no award winning baker; however a girl has to eat. I hope this page helps to spark your imagination and give you ideas for something good for dinner. Although, perhaps a sweet tooth might suit you better, or my personal favorite breads. If I have a recipe I like, I will link it below. However, for many of them you may be better off finding recipes on your own. I hope this sparks your curiosity.
Happy Cooking!
If you are sick of the same old spaghetti and meatballs, but still have some meatballs to go through, perhaps try making Swedish meatballs. This simple, but delicious dish is flavored with nutmeg and cardamom and often served with lingonberry jelly. Be careful though, because lingonberry jelly can be quite tart.
This is an incredibly simple recipe that tastes delicious. It is very easy to make with common ingredients that people who cook Asian cuisines likely already have in their kitchen. If you are looking for fancy Asian cuisine you may be disappointed. However for those with limited time to cook and those who just want something that tastes good, I would strongly recommend. Also if your looking for a base to experiment with, this may be something to work with, but it is flavorful on its own, so dilute as necessary with extra rice.
If you ever find you have too much spaghetti in your pantry, and don't know what to do with it all. Try making Chicken Tetrazzini. This cheesy casserole is a sure winner.
Hamburger soup is a nice warm dish for the cold winter months. I hope to try it out in the next few weeks. It tends to take a little longer, but also seems to make quite a lot of food for your effort. It is easily scalable based on your pot or pressure cooker.
Beef stroganoff was one of my favorite dinners growing up. This is a good meal to start in the crock pot in the morning and come home to dinner in the evening. However, I have since discovered it can also be made in a frying pan or even with different red meats.
This dish requires noodles, a creamy soup like cream of mushroom, stew beef or your choice of red meat, and carrots and mushrooms as desired.
This is my favorite recipe right now. It is so easy to make and typically takes me about half an hour to an hour. Scones don't even require yeast! These pastries are slightly sweet and perfect to go with tea or just for a get together with your friends. Although I have been known to eat them all myself on occasion.
I usually follow a recipe from stuck on sweet which makes about 8 scones per batch. I wouldn't recommend shrinking the recipe, but you can make as many batches as you wish. The scones are fine with or without the frosting. However, if you do make the frosting it does harden if you try to keep it. It is still usable, just has a very different texture and heating it up in the microwave for 10 seconds may be helpful.
This rich dessert is delicious for the holiday season. It is made primarily with Oreos and cream cheese with melting chocolate covering it. It has been a few years since I last made these, but they are delicious. If peppermint is your thing I did notice a few recipes for Peppermint Oreo Truffles as well.
Perhaps this is a bit redundant, but chocolate chip cookies are a great cookie that should be included in every chef's cook book.
If you are having trouble with your cookies laying too flat when you make them, try reducing the amount of chocolate chips you put in them. I have run into quite a few recipes that require twice as many chocolate chips as are actually necessary.
Pecan pie is often a staple of Thanksgiving or Christmas. Modern pecan pie recipes use corn syrup. However, I hear you can use maple syrup instead of corn syrup if you want to give that a try.
This dish usually requires yeast. However, I only have self rising flour on hand today so I found a different recipe.
Snickerdoodles are a simple cookie that flattens out in baking and is coated in cinnamon and sugar. This tasty treat is a classic that you will likely have all the ingredients for on hand.
These cookies can also be converted into Hersey kiss cookies by adding a Hersey kiss on top. Just make sure to make an indent with the chocolate before cooking and then add the chocolate to the cookie after they cool for a minute.
Gingersnaps are a simple spice filled cookie. Perfect for those who want a flavorful cookie that isn't too sweet.
Blueberries are a delicious simple berry that grows in bushes. They are often good to add to various baked good such as muffins or scones. The key with blueberries is to rinse them very well before adding to a dish in order to prevent the dish from turning as blue as your blueberries. I haven't had too much issue with this, however, rinsing my frozen blueberries before adding them to my scones often helps them defrost to the point where they squish while I try to fold them into the batter. Just remember to cut back on the amount of liquids you use when you add the berries as especially frozen berries can contain a lot of moisture.
Bilberries are often called European blueberries. They are smaller berries than blueberries and often are found in northern climates. They have a more complex flavor than the simple sweetness of blueberries with a greater tartness. They also have a red interior as opposed to the white innards of a blueberry.
Although I have never known anyone to cook with Rambutan, this spikey fruit can be quite tasty. Although it may be intimidating, just tear open the outer shell and bite into the sweet grape-like fruit inside. Just be careful of the pit inside, although not as hard as a peach pit, most people still prefer not to eat it.
