Job 1-5
Job 1
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Jobπ§; and that man π§ was perfect and upright, and one that feared God πΆβπ«οΈ, and eschewed evil. 2 And there were born unto him seven sons π¦ and three daughters π§. 3 His π§ substance also was seven thousand sheep π, and three thousand camels πͺ, and five hundred yoke of oxen π«, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man π§ was the greatest of all the men of the east. 4 And his sons π¦ went and feasted in their houses π , every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters π§ to eat and to drink with them. 5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job π§ sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job π§ said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God πΆβπ«οΈ in their hearts β₯οΈ. Thus did Job π§ continually.
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God πΌ came to present themselves before the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ, and Satan πΏ came also among them πΌ. 7 And the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ said unto Satan πΏ, Whence comest thou πΏ? Then Satan πΏ answered the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ, and said, From going to and fro in the earth π, and from walking up and down in it. 8 And the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ said unto Satan πΏ, Hast thou πΏ considered my servant Job π§, that there is none like him π§ in the earth π, a perfect and an upright man π, one that feareth God πΆβπ«οΈ, and escheweth evil? 9 Then Satan πΏ answered the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ, and said, Doth Job π§ fear God πΆβπ«οΈ for nought? 10 Hast not thou πΆβπ«οΈ made an hedge about him π§, and about his π§ house π , and about all that he π§ hath on every side? thou πΆβπ«οΈ hast blessed the work of his π§ hands, and his π§ substance is increased in the land. 11 But put forth thine πΆβπ«οΈ hand now, and touch all that he π§ hath, and he π§ will curse thee to thy πΆβπ«οΈ face. 12 And the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ said unto Satan πΏ, Behold, all that he π§ hath is in thy πΏ power; only upon himself π§ put not forth thine πΏ hand. So Satan πΏ went forth from the presence of the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ.
13 And there was a day when his sons π¦ and his daughters π§ were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house π : 14 And there came a messenger unto Job π§, and said, The oxen π« were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: 15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain β οΈ the servants with the edge of the sword βοΈ; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire π₯ of God πΆβπ«οΈ is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep π, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels πͺ, and have carried them away, yea, and slain β οΈ the servants with the edge of the sword βοΈ; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons π¦ and thy daughters π§ were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house π : 19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house π , and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead βοΈ; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
20 Then Job π§ arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his π§ head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
21 And said, Naked came I π§ out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I π§ return thither: the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ gave, and the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ.
22 In all this Job π§ sinned not, nor charged God foolishly πΆβπ«οΈ.
Job 2
Again there was a day when the sons of God πΌ came to present themselves before the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ, and Satan πΏ came also among them to present himself πΏ before the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ. 2 And the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ said unto Satan πΏ, From whence comest thou πΏ? And Satan πΏ answered the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ, and said, From going to and fro in the earthπ, and from walking up and down in it. 3 And the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ said unto Satan πΏ, Hast thou πΏ considered my πΆβπ«οΈ servant Job π§, that there is none like him π§ in the earth π, a perfect and an upright man π, one that feareth God πΆβπ«οΈ, and escheweth evil? and still he π§ holdeth fast his π§ integrity, although thou movedst me πΆβπ«οΈ against him π§, to destroy him π§ without cause. 4 And Satan πΏ answered the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man π hath will he π give for his π life. 5 But put forth thine πΆβπ«οΈ hand now, and touch his π bone and his π flesh, and he π will curse thee πΆβπ«οΈ to thy πΆβπ«οΈ face. 6 And the LORD said unto Satan πΏ, Behold, he π§ is in thine hand; but save his π§ life.
7 So went Satan πΏ forth from the presence of the LORD πΆβπ«οΈ, and smote Job π§ with sore boils from the sole of his π§ foot unto his π§ crown. 8 And he π§ took him π§ a potsherd to scrape himself π§ withal; and he π§ sat down among the ashes.
9 Then said his wife π§ unto him π§, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God πΆβπ«οΈ, and die β οΈ. 10 But he π§ said unto her π§, Thou π§ speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God πΆβπ«οΈ, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job π§ sin with his π§ lips.
11 Now when Job's three friends π§βπ€βπ§ heard of all this evil that was come upon him π§, they π§βπ€βπ§ came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite π¨βπ¦±, and Bildad the Shuhite π¨π»βπ¦±, and Zophar the Naamathite π¨πΎβπ¦±: for they π§βπ€βπ§ had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him π§ and to comfort him π§. 12 And when they π§βπ€βπ§ lifted up their π§βπ€βπ§ eyes π afar off, and knew him π§ not, they lifted up their π§βπ€βπ§ voice, and wept; and they π§βπ€βπ§ rent every one his π§ mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their π§βπ€βπ§ heads toward heaven. 13 So they π§βπ€βπ§ sat down with him π§ upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him π§: for they π§βπ€βπ§ saw that his π§ grief was very great.
Job 3
After this opened Job π§ his π§ mouth, and cursed his π§ day. 2 And Job π§ spake, and π§ said,
3 Let the day π perish wherein I π§ was born, and the night π in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
4 Let that day π be darkness; let not God πΆβπ«οΈ regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death β οΈ stain it; let a cloud βοΈ dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day π terrify it.
6 As for that night π, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
7 Lo, let that night π be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
8 Let them curse it that curse the day π, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
9 Let the stars of the twilight β thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day π:
10 Because it shut not up the doors πͺ of my mother's womb, nor hid sorrow from mine π§ eyes π.
11 Why died β οΈ I π§ not from the womb? why did I π§ not give up the ghost π» when I π§ came out of the belly?
12 Why did the knees prevent me π§? or why the breasts that I π§ should suck?
13 For now should I π§ have lain still and been quiet, I π§ should have slept: then had I π§ been at rest,
14 With kings π and counsellors βοΈ of the earth π, which built desolate places for themselves;
15 Or with princes that had gold π₯, who filled their houses with silver π₯:
16 Or as an hidden untimely birth I π§ had not been; as infants πΆ which never saw light.
17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest ποΈ.
18 There the prisoners rest ποΈ together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.
19 The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
21 Which long for death β οΈ, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
22 Which rejoice π exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave πͺ¦?
23 Why is light given to a man π whose way is hid, and whom God πΆβπ«οΈ hath hedged in?
24 For my sighing cometh before I π§ eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters π.
25 For the thing which I π§ greatly feared π¨ is come upon me π§, and that which I π§ was afraid π¨ of is come unto me π§.
26 I π§ was not in safety, neither had I π§ rest ποΈ, neither was I π§ quiet; yet trouble came.
Job 4
Then Eliphaz the Temanite π¨β𦱠answered and said,
2 If we π§βπ€βπ§ assay to commune with thee π§, wilt thou π§ be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Behold, thou π§ hast instructed many, and thou π§ hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 Thy π§ words have upholden him π§ that was falling, and thou π§ hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5 But now it is come upon thee π§, and thou π§ faintest; it toucheth thee π§, and thou π§ art troubled.
6 Is not this thy π§ fear π¨, thy π§ confidence, thy π§ hope, and the uprightness of thy π§ ways?
7 Remember, I π¨β𦱠pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
8 Even as I π¨β𦱠have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
9 By the blast of God πΆβπ«οΈ they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
10 The roaring of the lion π¦, and the voice of the fierce lion π¦, and the teeth of the young lions π¦, are broken.
11 The old lion π¦ perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's π¦ whelps are scattered abroad.
12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me π¨βπ¦±, and mine π¨β𦱠ear πreceived a little thereof.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night π, when deep sleep π΄ falleth on men,
14 Fear π¨ came upon me π¨βπ¦±, and trembling, which made all my bones 𦴠to shake.
15 Then a spirit (πΏ?) passed before my π¨β𦱠face; the hair of my π¨β𦱠flesh stood up:
16 It stood still, but I π¨β𦱠could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine π¨β𦱠eyes π, there was silence, and I π¨β𦱠heard a voice (πΏ?), saying,
17 Shall mortal man π be more just than God πΆβπ«οΈ? shall a man π be more pure than his π maker πΆβπ«οΈ?
18 Behold, he πΆβπ«οΈ put no trust in his πΆβπ«οΈ servants; and his πΆβπ«οΈ angels π he πΆβπ«οΈ charged with folly:
19 How much less in them that dwell in houses π of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth π¦?
20 They are destroyed from morning π to evening π: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die β οΈ, even without wisdom.
Job 5
Call now, if there be any that will answer thee π§; and to which of the saints wilt thou π§ turn?
2 For wrath killeth β οΈ the foolish man π, and envy slayeth β οΈ the silly one π.
3 I π¨β𦱠have seen the foolish π taking root: but suddenly I π¨β𦱠cursed his π habitation.
4 His children π§ are far from safety, and they π§ are crushed in the gate β οΈ, neither is there any to deliver them π§.
5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.
6 Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
7 Yet man π is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
8 I π¨β𦱠would seek unto God πΆβπ«οΈ, and unto God πΆβπ«οΈ would I π¨β𦱠commit my cause:
9 Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number #οΈβ£:
10 Who πΆβπ«οΈ giveth rain π§οΈ upon the earth π, and sendeth waters π upon the fields:
11 To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
12 He πΆβπ«οΈ disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
13 He πΆβπ«οΈ taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday π as in the night π.
15 But he πΆβπ«οΈ saveth the poor from the sword βοΈ, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
16 So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
17 Behold, happy π is the man π whom God πΆβπ«οΈ correcteth: therefore despise not thou π§ the chastening of the Almighty πΆβπ«οΈ:
18 For he πΆβπ«οΈ maketh sore, and bindeth up: he πΆβπ«οΈ woundeth, and his πΆβπ«οΈ hands make whole.
19 He πΆβπ«οΈ shall deliver thee π§ in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee π§.
20 In famine he πΆβπ«οΈ shall redeem thee π§ from death β οΈ: and in war from the power of the swordβοΈ.
21 Thou π§ shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou π§ be afraid π¨ of destruction when it cometh.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh π: neither shalt thou be afraid π¨ of the beasts π¦ of the earth π.
23 For thou π§ shalt be in league with the stones πͺ¨ of the field: and the beasts π¦ of the field shall be at peace with thee π§.
24 And thou π§ shalt know that thy π§ tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou π§ shalt visit thy π§ habitation π , and shalt not sin.
25 Thou π§ shalt know also that thy π§ seed π« shall be great, and thine π§ offspring as the grass of the earth π.
26 Thou π§ shalt come to thy π§ grave πͺ¦ in a full age, like as a shock of corn π½ cometh in in his π½ season.
27 Lo this, we π§βπ€βπ§ have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou π§ it for thy π§ good.
